Trollsteinen (850m), meaning the Troll Rock, is a pillar of stone rising above Endalen and Larsbreen. We use Randonnée skis to access it directly from Longyearbyen via the Lars glacier. We begin by walking up through the moraine to the north of the glacier to about 500m before we cross over the glacier itself to meet the mountain on the other side. We then follow the ridgeline all the way to Trollsteinen, where we take off the skis and enjoy the view with a hot drink. After the break, it’s skis on and fixed in position for the descent, carving our way down the mountainside and the glacier, speeding through the small moraine turns and gullies, before coming to a halt at the edge of town once more.
