Join us for a truly special Arctic adventure as we hike up to Larsbreen Glacier and discover a hidden world beneath the ice.
Far above Longyearbyen, surrounded by massive mountains and endless Arctic landscapes, we’ll make our way into the glacier itself and explore the incredible ice tunnels created by nature.
Your adventure starts in Longyearbyen, where your guide will pick you up from your accommodation. Before heading out, we’ll make sure you have the right equipment for the day. Depending on the snow conditions, we’ll provide trekking poles, crampons, or snowshoes (tennis rackets) to help you comfortably make your way through the Arctic terrain.
From the moment we leave town, the landscape begins to change. We slowly make our way uphill towards the glacier, with beautiful views opening up behind us as we gain elevation. The hike takes around 1.5 hours, and we’ll take our time along the way, stopping to catch our breath, enjoy the views, take photos, and simply appreciate the peacefulness of being surrounded by Arctic nature.
When we reach the glacier, we put on our helmets and headlamps and prepare for the most unique part of the adventure: stepping inside the ice.
As we enter the glacier’s melting channels, we leave the outside world behind and walk into a completely different environment. Inside the ice, you’ll discover beautiful blue colours, fascinating formations, and winding passages created by meltwater slowly shaping the glacier over thousands of years. It is a rare opportunity to experience a part of Svalbard that is constantly changing and hidden from view.
We’ll take our time inside the glacier to explore, enjoy the silence, and let the surroundings speak for themselves. In this incredible Arctic setting, we’ll also enjoy a warm expedition lunch and hot drinks. A simple but unforgettable moment surrounded by ancient ice.
After our visit inside Larsbreen, we will slowly make our way back down with a final chance to enjoy the spectacular views over Longyearbyen and having great fun sliding down the steep hills!
During the polar night, when the conditions are right, we may even be lucky enough to see the Northern Lights dancing across the sky above us.
This is not just a hike, it is a chance to experience the Arctic from the inside, to discover a hidden world beneath the glacier, and to create memories from a place that few people ever get to visit.
The tour lasts approximately 5 hours and covers around 6–8 km with 400 meters of elevation gain.
Come explore the hidden side of Svalbard and step into the timeless world of a living Arctic glacier!
