Ready for a snowmobile adventure in the Arctic Polar night? Join our accessible snowmobile trip towards the Pingo. This intrapermafrost ice-cored hill is located about 20km drive from town deep into the valley. Our adventure starts when we will pick you up from your accommodation and drive you to our basecamp. After a safety briefing and changing into the right clothes, we are ready to start our snowmobile experience into the wilderness in the dark Polar night! You can either drive your own snowmobile or if you book with more than 1 person, share one (it is possible to swap along the way). We will drive our snowmobiles through the huge valley of Adventdalen and be on the lookout for possible wildlife such as the Svalbard reindeer. When we reach the Pingo, our guide will explain you more about this interesting periglacial landform, whilst we enjoy our hot drinks and sweets. Don’t forget to look up, because maybe you are lucky to spot some ‘daytime’ Northern lights during your drive! As Svalbard is the only place in the world to be able to see daytime Aurora. On our way back to town we will make a stop at the old airport of Longyearbyen, where the remains of a crashed World War II aircraft can be found. This shorter snowmobile trip is the perfect match for those who like to experience driving a snowmobile in the Polar night! It is not an issue if you do not have previous snowmobile experience. We will give clear instructions and we will start easy to get you into the flow! This tour will take approximately 3,5 hrs and is about 40-50km’s on snowmobile
