We start from town by car, and go to Camp Barents, which is located 12 km from Longyearbyen, right below the now closed Mine 7, From here we continue the journey on foot into Adventdalen towards Foxdalen. At Foxdalen we stop briefly at our cabin, where we collect waders so we can cross the Foxdal river, which is right next to the cabin. After crossing the river, we enter the Fox valley, with its beautifully layered vertical cliff sides. Here there are both fossils and rich wildlife. On the way back, we stop again at our small trapper hut where we eat a light lunch and get something hot to drink, before we hike the 4 km back to the car. The hike itself is approx. 12 - 15 kilometers. Pick-up from your hotel in Longyearbyen starts at 10:00. You will be returned to town between 4 and 5 p.m. The trip takes place in an area with rough terrain. We recommend good mountain shoes and otherwise woolen and windproof clothes, hat and mittens.
