This challenging yet rewarding hike takes you high above Longyearbyen, offering a true taste of Arctic wilderness. As we climb towards the 850-meter summit, you’ll discover the dramatic mountain scenery, glaciers, and rugged landscapes that make Svalbard unlike anywhere else in the world. At the top, you’ll stand beside the iconic rock formation that gives Trollsteinen its name and enjoy a view that stretches across valleys, glaciers, fjords, and endless Arctic mountains.
Your adventure begins with pickup from your accommodation, followed by a short drive to the starting point at the edge of Longyearbyen. From here, we begin our ascent, gradually making our way through changing Arctic landscapes. The trail takes us past steep mountain slopes, across fascinating moraine terrain, and through a unique glacier-carved environment as we make our way towards the summit.
Along the way, we’ll take time to enjoy the surroundings, capture incredible photos, and experience the peaceful silence of the Arctic mountains. We’ll find a good location to enjoy a warm expedition-style lunch and hot drinks while your guide shares stories about the area, the landscape, and life in the High Arctic.
